Day 2 – Visit Jaffna Fort

A majestic remnant of Jaffna’s colonial epoch, the famous Dutch Fort in Jaffna, was built by the Portuguese in 1618. This pentagon shaped Fort overlooks the Jaffna lagoon. Although the interior of the Fort has not stood the test of time, the outer structure made out of limestone and black coral still remains in good condition. Explore Jaffna town You will visit some of Jaffna’s attractions belonging to the colonial era including the Church of St John the Baptist, Church of Our Lady of Refuge and Jaffna Secretariat’s Office. Also, you will pay a quick visit to Manthri Manai (Minister’s House), a colonial building that features a fusion of European and Dravidian architecture. Next, you will have a look at the Jaffna Library, which houses an extensive collection of books. Day 3 - Visit the Nallur Kovil

One of the most revered Hindu temples in Sri Lanka, the Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil is a beautiful manifestation of Dravidian architecture. With a looming five-storied golden gopuram, the presence of the Kovil adds to the enigmatic character of Jaffna. You will walk through the Kovil and see its striking sculptures and paintings. Please note that the Kovil upholds strict religious rituals, and thus before entering the Kovil you should remove your shoes; women should be conservatively dressed and every man must remove his shirt. Taking photographs inside the Kovil is prohibited, Afternoon on Casuarina beach With shallow waters and corals, Casuarina beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the northern peninsula. It is aptly named after the Casuarina trees that border the shore. The silvery sands are as soft as powder and the clam teal of the waters soothes the eye. It is an ideal spot for swimming as the beach is quiet uncrowded. You will witness a stunning sunset on the beach.
